The Bahamas national football team joined FIFA in 1968. They have never qualified for a FIFA world cup tournament.
The Bahamas is in the Atlantic Ocean just north of Cuba. It is in a danger area for hurricanes in the summer and was hit by one in 1999. The Bahamas is actually over 3000 islands instead of a single landmass.
The Bahamas is actually one of the richest countries in the area. It relies on tourism which accounts for over half of it’s economy and provides jobs for half of the population. They are also an attractive destination for overseas companies as they have a very relaxed policy when it comes to taxation.
The Bahamas is linked with some famous figures from history. It was reportedly a favourite destination of the infamous pirate Blackbeard. That is until the British government fought back against piracy. It was also the place where Christopher Columbus first set foot in the New World. The actual site on the Bahamas is open to debate.
The Bahamas national football team first entered qualifying for a world cup in 1998 but they withdrew. In 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014 they participated in qualifying but did not manage to progress. It is difficult to see an improvement coming any time soon.
