The Guyana national football team are nicknamed the Golden Jaguars. Guyana, formerly known as British Guiana, began competing in international matches in 1921. They first entered a FIFA world cup qualifying campaign for the 1978 Argentina world cup. They were eliminated in the preliminary knock-out round.
Guyana is a country filled with natural beauty. It has one of the largest unspoiled rain forests in the world, some of which is inaccessible by humans. It is also filled with amazing wild animals including, it is believed, many that are yet to be discovered.
In terms of the country’s culture, Guyana is comparable to many of the English speaking Caribbean nations. The country contributes its players to the West Indies cricket team, and plays as a country against Caribbean nations.
