Moldova national football team

The Moldova national football team were formerly a part of the Soviet Union. They played their first match as an independent nation in 1991 against Georgia. They lost the match 4-2. The team is yet to qualify for a world cup or European championship. They have entered all world cup qualifiers since 1998.

In 1992 they recorded their biggest ever victory. A 5-0 win over Pakistan. Nine years later the team suffered their biggest defeat. It was a 6-0 loss to Sweden in Gothenburg.

The Moldova national football team have never really come close to qualifying for a world cup. In the 2014 campaign the side finished second bottom, only above minnows San Marino. The only real positive to come out of the campaign was a surprise 5-2 win away to Montenegro.
