The Saint Lucia national football team formed in 1979. Saint Lucia is an island country in the Caribbean. It is to the north-west of Barbados. As a commonwealth country, Saint Lucia has the Queen as its head of state.
The country is volcanic and as such is much more mountainous than many of the other Caribbean countries. It has a tropical climate and its capital is Castries.
As with many Caribbean islands Saint Lucia relies heavily on tourism. With Europe and America’s financial decline, however, Saint Lucia’s economy has suffered as a result. They have been forced to adapt and bring in foreign investment and offer offshore banking.
The Saint Lucia national football team only began attempting to qualify for FIFA world cups in 1994. They played Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and were eliminated. They faced a similar story in 1998, 2002 and 2006, and are yet to make a real impact.
