The Macedonia national football team have never qualified for a world cup or a European championship, although they are still relatively new on the international stage. From 1930 to 1990 they were part of Yugoslavia. They first attempted to qualify for the 1998 world cup, and have entered every one since.
Yugoslavia had a relatively high amount of success in the world cup, but never won the tournament. Out of nine tournaments entered they made it to two semi-finals, and three quarter-finals.
The Macedonia national football team became a member of FIFA and UEFA in 1994. The side played their first international match in 1993, a 4-1 win against Slovenia.
