The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) has 40 teams. 35 sides are affiliated to FIFA, with the remaining five teams unable to enter a world cup tournament. For the 2018 world cup, 35 teams are competing for three places and one play-off spot. Although none of the sides have managed to win a world cup, CONCACAF nations have hosted the tournament several times, with Mexico staging the competition twice.
