The Confederation of African Football has 55 teams. Two of these teams (Reunion and Zanzibar) are not affiliated to FIFA and cannot enter the world cup. For Russia 2018, 53 teams are competing for five qualifying places. There are three qualifying rounds, with the highest ranked teams receiving byes to round two. Qualification fixtures are yet to be announced, but keep checking Road to Russia for the latest information. No African team has won the world cup, although South Africa became the first nation to host the competition in 2010.
