The San Marino national football team have struggled on the international stage. They are at a disadvantage as the country has the second smallest population out of the UEFA members.
The side’s first official international match came as recently as 1990. A 4-0 loss Switzerland. This represents a good result compared to their biggest defeat. In 2006 they lost to Germany 13-0. The team has not actually won many games along the way. It is no surprise that their biggest victory is a 1-0 win over Liechtenstein in 2004.
The San Marino Football Federation actually formed back in 1931. The team did not form however until 1986. In 1988 they became a member of both FIFA and UEFA. The team have attempted to qualify for world cups since 1994, but unsurprisingly have failed as yet to make their debut.
