The Saudi Arabia national football team formed in 1956. The team joined both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation in that same year. Saudi Arabia is one of Asia’s most successful teams, having appeared in four consecutive world cups between 1994 and 2006.
The side have also been champions of the AFC Asian Cup on three occasions. They came in 1984, 1988, and 1996. The Saudi Arabia national football team have also been runners-up a further three times. They have also been runner-up of the FIFA Confederations Cup. In 1992 the team lost to Argentina in the final 3-1.
