The Sint Maarten national football team are from the Dutch side of the island of Saint Martin. It is easily confused with the Saint Martin national team, which is the team from the French side of the island. Sint Maarten is not FIFA affiliated so is unable to compete in world cup competitions. They can compete in competitions such as the Gold Cup. They have not had much success on the international stage and have recently been playing less fixtures. Since the year 2000 the Sint Maarten national football team have played only one game in a Confederation tournament, and that was in 2004.
The team is still very young having only played their first fixture in 1992. They defeated the Cayman Islands 4-2 at home. It was the same team that inflicted the Sint Maarten national football team’s heaviest defeat. A 5-0 away defeat in 1994. Their biggest win came two years later in 1996 when they beat Anguilla 4-0.
The island itself is in the Caribbean, to the east of Puerto Rico. Sint Maarten makes up part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The southern Dutch side of the island is known for being the party side of Saint Martin. It is made up of festive night-life, beaches and exotic drinks, as well as casinos.
