The Slovakia national football team actually played their first match in 1939. As the Slovak Republic the team beat a Nazi run Germany 2-0. After the war the team became a part of the Czechoslovakia national team.
Between 1954 and 1994 Czechoslovakia enjoyed moderate success in the world cup. In 1962 the team lost 3-1 to Brazil in the final, for their best ever finish. Other than that the side made it to the quarter final in 1990, where they lost to eventual winners West Germany.
After regaining independence the Slovakia national football team played their first game in 1994. It was a 1-0 win over the United Arab Emirates in Dubai. Their biggest defeat came a year later when they lost 6-0 to Argentina. The side’s biggest win is 7-0 and they have achieved this on three occasions. Twice against San Marino and one against Liechtenstein in 2004.
