Kazakhstan national football team

Kazakhstan

The Kazakhstan national football team were part of the Soviet Union but became their own team after independence in 1991. Initially the team joined the Asian Football Confederation and took part in qualifying for the 1998 and 2002 world cups.

After failing to make it to either tournament the team moved to UEFA, but have still been unable to qualify for a world cup, or a European championship.

The Kazakhstan national football team played their first game in 1992. A 1-0 win over another former Soviet Union team Turkmenistan.  The side recorded their biggest victory over Pakistan in 1997. A 7-0 demolition. Their biggest defeat came in 2005 and 2008. Both 6-0 defeats to Turkey and Russia.

The team need to make it to their first major tournament if they are to break into the top 100 teams in the world.
