The Puerto Rico national football team is controlled by the Puerto Rican Football federation. The country is situated in the Caribbean. It is to the east of the Dominican Republic. Puerto Rico is made up of a mainland and several small islands.

The inhabitants of Puerto Rico are actually American citizens. They cannot vote in presidential elections. The political situation in Puerto Rico seems to be in debate. The question is whether to become an American state or become independent.

Sport is massive in Puerto Rico. Baseball is perhaps the most popular. Boxing, basketball and volleyball are also played and enjoyed in large numbers. Football is played in Puerto Rico, with the Puerto Rico Islanders football club playing in the second tier of American football.

The Puerto Rico national football team played their first ever game against Cuba in 1940. The game ended 1-1. They did not actually win their first match until 1970 when they beat the Bahamas 3-0.
